Le Meridien Ile Maurice: Mauritius' premier family luxury resort

|| Explore Le Méridien Île Maurice: The ultimate family destination for all ages ||

Mauritius: the island that feels like it was painted by nature itself with turquoise lagoons, golden sands, and sunsets that melt into the ocean. As you wander along the coastline, the rhythm of the waves invites you to slow down and breathe in the island air. It's along these pristine shores of Pointe Aux Piments that captures the very essence of tropical elegance.

The concept

Le Méridien Île Maurice, where mornings begin with ocean light filtering through your room, and nights end beneath linen as soft as the island breeze, after a soothing dip that stills both body and mind. No two stays ever feel the same. This thoughtful individuality invites guests to return and experience a new perspective of island living each time they visit. Le Méridien Île Maurice has become one of Mauritius’ most iconic family-friendly luxury resorts, celebrated for its refined design, serene atmosphere, and deep connection to the island’s natural beauty. Overlooking the Indian Ocean, the hotel offers spacious suites, curated dining, and experiences that celebrate both relaxation and togetherness.

The rooms

Each room at Le Méridien Île Maurice carries its own atmosphere. Yet the resort’s signature elegance and Mauritian warmth remain constant throughout. From the Deluxe Ocean View Rooms to the Nirvana Suites, every space is designed to connect you with the island’s rhythm. The subtle mix of contemporary design and island textures, soft linens, rattan details, and ocean-inspired tones gives each room a sense of calm sophistication.

During our stay at Le Méridien Île Maurice, we stayed three nights in the Ocean View Room. A space that perfectly captures the island’s rhythm and elegance. From the moment we walked in, the gentle palette of sandy neutrals and blue tones instantly made us slow down. The interior felt modern yet warm, with soft fabrics, wooden accents, and just the right touch of Mauritian charm. Each morning, the first thing we saw was the glimmer of the Indian Ocean stretching endlessly beyond our private balcony. The bathroom was another highlight: spacious, with a deep bathtub that made every evening feel like a small ritual of its own. It also had two seperate sinks, which came in very handy during our stay. After a day of swimming or exploring the island, sinking into that bath while the light turned golden outside was pure bliss.

Although we only stayed in one room category, the experience felt luxurious yet genuine, designed for stillness and reconnection. The Ocean View Room at Le Méridien Île Maurice isn’t just a place to sleep; it’s a place where the horizon greets you every morning, and the island’s tranquility never really leaves you. We stayed on the far end of the beach. It had its pro's and cons. On one hand, we were well placed near the beach, but a bit of a trek to the lobby and some of the resort's restaurants.

The Food

Breakfast at Le Méridien Île Maurice is nothing short of a dream. The morning light filters through the open dining area as the sound of waves softly echoes in the distance. The kind of setting that instantly slows you down. Everything, from the table setup to the presentation of fresh tropical fruit and pastries, feels curated with care. The breakfast buffet offers a little bit of everything: warm croissants, homemade jams, both fresh juices and healthy shots, and local specialties that change daily. There’s even a chef preparing eggs and crêpes right in front of you. Whether yo want to eat healthy, savory or you have more a sweet tooth, there's truly something for everyone.

Throughout our stay, we explored all of the resort’s restaurants, each with its own ambiance and charm. My personal favorite was Jade, the resort’s Asian-fusion restaurant. Every dish felt balanced and fresh, beautifully plated with subtle island influences. Joey’s favorite was Waves, a laid-back beachside restaurant that serves Mediterranean-style dishes with local ingredients, perfect for long lunches with the ocean just a few steps away.

Le Meridien Beach Barbecue set up

We also loved the Beach Barbecue, a special evening hosted on the sand with live music, flickering torches, and freshly grilled seafood. It felt casual yet refined, a celebration of Mauritian hospitality at its best. The meat and fish tasted really good. Another highlight was the Cooking Class, which turned out to be a surprisingly fun and interactive experience, suitable for both adults and kids. We learned to prepare local dishes (chili bites and Mauritian Curry) with Mauritian spices, guided by chefs who shared stories and laughter along the way. Since this class was at 11 AM, we had just finished breakfast around 10 so our appetite wasn't fit for such a big meal, but we did taste a few bites and really liked it.

One of our favorite memories, though, was the La Vie Rose experience, an elegant rosé pairing set right by the beach. Surrounded by ocean breeze and golden light, we sampled different rosé wines paired with delicate bites, each combination thoughtfully chosen to reflect the flavors of the island. It’s one of those experiences that feels effortlessly chic and unforgettable. We also tried their Indian restaurant, which, although beautifully designed, didn’t fully meet our expectations, but that’s probably because we’ve been spoiled by some of the best Indian restaurants around the world. And one of the things we loved most? The staff walking along the beach in the afternoon, handing out fresh fruit slices. It’s such a simple gesture, yet it perfectly captures the spirit of Le Méridien Île Maurice: thoughtful, warm, and effortlessly delightful.

The services & Activities

The staff greeted us with genuine smiles and delicious welcome drinks, a small gesture that set the tone. Check-in was smooth and while we waited for our room to be ready, we had a chance to freshen up in their ‘Fresh up room’ . Which is great for guests who just arrived after a long flight.

After this we were walking towards the beach and started to have a look at a couple of the hotel’s highlights. The resort offers a wide range of activities for every type of traveler. For those who love the ocean, there’s kayaking, paddleboarding, snorkeling, and diving directly from the hotel’s private beach. You can also join a glass-bottom boat tour or try windsurfing for a bit of adventure. If you prefer something calmer, there’s a beautiful infinity pool, a spa with ocean views, and even sunset yoga sessions on the beach.

Families will enjoy the kids’ club, while couples can opt for private beach dinners or a La Vie Rosé tasting experience by the shore. Beyond the resort, day trips to Grand Baie, Pamplemousses Botanical Garden, or the L’Aventure du Sucre Museum are easily arranged by the concierge, who’s always happy to help plan your next adventure. Whether you’re looking for rest, discovery, or simply a moment of stillness by the sea, Le Méridien Île Maurice offers it all wrapped in the kind of genuine hospitality that makes every stay unforgettable.

The Location

The resort sits directly on a beach, overlooking the shimmering waters of the Indian Ocean. The location is perfect for both relaxation and exploration. Within a short drive, you can discover charming coastal villages, botanical gardens, and local markets full of color and spice. The area also offers beautiful snorkeling spots, marine parks, and day trips to nearby islands, making it easy to experience the authentic side of Mauritius while still enjoying the comfort of a five-star resort.
