Our first impressions
Our stay actually started before we arrived at the hotel itself. After checking out of their sister hotel: Hotel Villa Ducale, we were collected by Hotel Villa Carlotta's complimentary shuttle service. The drive from Hotel Villa Ducale to Hotel Villa Carlotta was comfortable and relaxed, allowing us to enjoy the beautiful surroundings without having to think about luggage or transport. Upon arrival, everything felt effortless. Our luggage was immediately taken care of by the staff, check-in took only a few minutes and, despite arriving relatively early, our room was already prepared.
One of our favourite details came immediately afterwards. Rather than simply handing over the room key, the receptionist invited us to choose a welcome drink. Naturally, we celebrated the beginning of our stay with a glass of Prosecco before receiving a short tour of the property. It's a small gesture, but one that perfectly reflects the atmosphere throughout Hotel Villa Carlotta. Everything feels personal and nothing feels rushed.
The rooms
During our stay at Hotel Villa Carlotta, we slept in the following room: the Junior Suite Sea View. Our room was located on the ground floor, just a short walk from both the lobby and the swimming pool. While higher rooms naturally offer wider views across Taormina, we actually loved waking up to uninterrupted views of the Ionian Sea every morning. Watching the sunlight reflect on the water before breakfast quickly became part of our daily routine.
The room itself was spacious, beautifully maintained and impeccably clean. Throughout our stay, housekeeping visited several times, ensuring the room always looked immaculate while replenishing toiletries and fresh towels whenever needed.
The comfortable king-size bed made it easy to recharge after long days exploring Taormina, while the large bathtub became our favourite place to unwind each evening. The bathtub was also a huge highlight of the room. Since it was very relaxing to get back in the room and feel at eaze in the bathtub. Luxury isn't always about extravagant design. Sometimes it's simply about how comfortable a room makes you feel. Hotel Villa Carlotta gets that balance exactly right.
Our breakfast experience
Every morning, breakfast became one of the highlights of our stay. Not only because of the food itself, but because of the setting. Enjoying breakfast while overlooking the Mediterranean Sea is one of those travel moments that stays with you long after returning home. The breakfast buffet offered an impressive variety of freshly baked croissants, smoked salmon, Sicilian cheeses, fresh fruit, pastries and numerous local delicacies. Coffee lovers certainly won't be disappointed either. As someone who appreciates a strong cappuccino, I ordered mine with a double espresso shot every morning, and it was exactly what I needed before another day exploring Taormina.
It's the kind of breakfast where you find yourself lingering just a little longer because there's simply no reason to rush.
Dining at restaurant Euphoria
Restaurant Euphoria deserves a visit, even if you aren't staying at Hotel Villa Carlotta. We actually headed there immediately after arriving for lunch and quickly realised that the restaurant would become one of the highlights of our stay. Our favourite Eggplant dish appeared on the menu once again, making the choice incredibly easy. Prepared with fresh Sicilian ingredients and beautifully presented, it reminded us exactly why we had fallen in love with Sicilian cuisine during our road trip.
Dinner was equally memorable. As the sun slowly disappeared behind the coastline, Restaurant Euphoria transformed into one of the most atmospheric places to spend an evening in Taormina. The combination of elegant surroundings, attentive service and exceptional food created a dining experience that felt refined without ever becoming formal.
One detail we still talk about today was the freshly baked bread served alongside rich Sicilian olive oil. It's simple, authentic and absolutely delicious. And then there was dessert. After trying tiramisu at several restaurants throughout Taormina, we can honestly say that the version served at Restaurant Euphoria was our favourite. Light, creamy and perfectly balanced, it was the perfect ending to every meal. Just as memorable as the food itself was the team. However, their peach tarte was incredibly good as well. Just the right amount of sweetness. Throughout our stay, the restaurant staff continuously shared recommendations for local attractions, hidden viewpoints and their favourite places to enjoy authentic Sicilian gelato. Those conversations transformed every meal into something much more personal than simply dining at a hotel restaurant.
Swimming pool & Mediterranean gardens
One of the things we appreciated most about Hotel Villa Carlotta was how peaceful the outdoor spaces felt. Although the swimming pool is smaller than the infinity pool at Hotel Villa Ducale, it offers a completely different experience. Rather than being the hotel's main attraction, it feels like a quiet place to escape after a morning exploring Taormina. Surrounded by Mediterranean gardens, colourful flowers and mature trees, the pool area creates an intimate atmosphere where guests can truly slow down. There were plenty of comfortable sun loungers available throughout the day, but our favourite discovery had to be the swinging daybeds. Gently swaying in the Sicilian sunshine with a good book and nothing on the agenda quickly became one of our favourite moments of the entire stay.
The gardens themselves are just as beautiful.
Rather than simply walking from your room to breakfast or the pool, we found ourselves wandering through the landscaped paths simply because they were such a pleasure to explore. Every corner felt beautifully maintained, adding even more charm to this elegant boutique hotel. Hotel Villa Carlotta may sit just minutes from the lively streets of Taormina, but once you're relaxing by the pool or strolling through the gardens, it feels wonderfully secluded.
Service at Hotel Villa Carlotta
Beautiful hotels are easy to find. Exceptional hospitality is much harder. What impressed us most throughout our stay wasn't a single grand gesture, but the consistency of the service. Every member of staff genuinely seemed to care about making each guest's experience as enjoyable as possible. Whether recommending local restaurants, suggesting hidden viewpoints around Taormina or sharing their favorite gelato spots, every interaction felt sincere rather than rehearsed.
One particular moment perfectly captured this level of hospitality.During our stay, I accidentally lost one of my earrings. Without us even mentioning it, the housekeeping team found it while cleaning the room and carefully handed it in at reception. This may seem like a small detail, but moments like these reveal far more about a hotel's standards than luxurious facilities ever could.
Combined with the effortless check-in, the complimentary shuttle service, the warm welcome with Prosecco and the genuinely friendly restaurant team, the service became one of the defining memories of our stay.
The Location
One of Hotel Villa Carlotta's greatest strengths is undoubtedly its location. Situated just a short walk from the historic centre of Taormina, the hotel offers the perfect balance between accessibility and tranquillity. Within minutes, you can find yourself wandering along Corso Umberto, browsing independent boutiques, visiting historic landmarks or enjoying an aperitivo overlooking the Ionian Sea.
Yet despite being so close to the city's vibrant atmosphere, returning to Hotel Villa Carlotta always felt wonderfully peaceful. For us, this combination made it one of the best-located boutique hotels in Taormina. You can experience everything the town has to offer during the day before returning to a calm, elegant setting in the evening. Also, did you know that Hotel Villa Carlotta is incredibly close to the main bus stop at Taormina? Which makes it easy to travel by bus towards the airport or other cities in Sicily.
