Why Hotel Villa Ducale is one of Taormina's Best boutique hotels above the city

Hotel Villa Ducale's beautifull view of Taormina

There's something special about hotels that immediately make you feel at home.

Not because they're the biggest or the most luxurious, but because every interaction feels genuine.

From the moment we arrived at Hotel Villa Ducale, we knew this wasn't going to be just another hotel stay. Warm smiles, a personal welcome and an unexpected tour of the property instantly set the tone for what became one of our favourite boutique hotel experiences in Sicily.

Perched high above Taormina, Hotel Villa Ducale combines breathtaking panoramic views with exceptional hospitality, creating an atmosphere that's both elegant and incredibly relaxing.

First Impressions

Arriving at Hotel Villa Ducale Taormina feels like discovering a hidden retreat above the busy streets of Taormina. Rather than simply checking us in, a member of staff personally showed us around the hotel, introducing us to the different spaces and making us feel welcome from the very first moment. They offered us a welcome drink, while proceeding with our check in. We had a lovely ice cold prosecco, which was very refreshing during the warm weather. It's a small gesture, but one that immediately reflects the hotel's philosophy: genuine hospitality. Throughout our stay, every member of the team was attentive, approachable and sincerely interested in making sure we had the best possible experience.

The Rooms

Our room was elegant, spotless and beautifully maintained. Everything felt fresh, clean and thoughtfully presented, making it easy to settle in and relax after exploring Sicily. If we had to mention one small point, it would be the space between the wardrobe and the bed, which felt slightly narrow when moving around with larger suitcases. It certainly wasn't a major issue, but it's something future guests might appreciate knowing. The bathroom was modern, the shower was excellent and, just like the rest of the hotel, everything was impeccably clean.

During our stay, we were also given an exclusive sneak peek at the hotel's brand-new room collection, which was still in its final stages of development. Although these rooms weren't officially open yet, it was easy to see how beautifully they had been designed. The new suites are noticeably more spacious and feature a vibrant yet elegant colour palette, with warm burnt orange tones, rich greens and contemporary finishes that perfectly complement the Sicilian surroundings.

Large windows frame breathtaking views over the swimming pool, the coastline and the charming town of Taormina. One of the standout features is the private outdoor jacuzzi, offering the perfect place to unwind while taking in the panoramic views, whether that's with a quiet coffee in the morning or a glass of wine as the sun sets over the bay. Based on what we saw, these new rooms will undoubtedly become one of Hotel Villa Ducale's most sought-after accommodations.

Breakfast & Dining

Breakfast quickly became one of the highlights of our stay. The selection was extensive, offering plenty of fresh options to suit different tastes. From local pastries to fresh fruit and savoury dishes, everything was beautifully presented and of excellent quality. One detail we particularly appreciated was the staff's willingness to explain the dishes whenever we had questions. Rather than simply serving the food, they took the time to describe the flavours and ingredients, making the entire experience feel personal and authentic.

Later during our stay, we also enjoyed cocktails on the terrace, which were not only delicious but beautifully presented, another example of the hotel's attention to detail, from the terrace set up to the details on the dishes.

Also, the pool quickly became one of our favourite places to unwind. With panoramic views stretching across the coastline, it was the perfect setting to slow down and enjoy a relaxed afternoon. We treated ourselves to a few refreshing cocktails, including a perfectly balanced Aperol Spritz that was especially welcome in the Sicilian sunshine. Alongside our drinks, Joey enjoyed the Tuna on Crispy Rice, a beautifully presented snack with fresh tuna, crispy rice and vibrant flavours that made it the perfect poolside bite.

As I'm allergic to tuna, I happily stuck to the cocktails, which certainly didn't disappoint. It's these small moments: great food, refreshing drinks and an incredible view, that made spending time by the pool just as memorable as exploring Taormina itself. During dinner, two dishes stood out and perfectly reflected the restaurant's attention to flavour, presentation and creativity. One of our favourites was the Eggplant Mille-feuille. Beautifully layered eggplant was served on a silky Datterino tomato coulis, finished with a rich Parmesan cream and delicate crystallised basil leaves. It was a refined interpretation of a classic Sicilian ingredient, balancing fresh, savoury and creamy flavours in every bite.

Another unforgettable dish was The Golden Ingot: Crispy Rice & Mazara Red Prawn. A perfectly golden cube of crispy sushi rice, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, topped with premium Mazara Red Prawn tartare, fresh finger lime and the restaurant's signature prawn-infused mayonnaise. The combination of textures and bright citrus notes made this one of the most memorable dishes of our stay. Incanto Restaurant at Hotel Villa Ducale Taormina truly lives up to its outstanding reputation. Overlooking Taormina and the Ionian coastline, it's the kind of place where exceptional cuisine, breathtaking views and a relaxed atmosphere make you want to linger long after dessert.

Outstanding Service

One of the things we appreciated most during our stay was the friendly and attentive service. From the moment we arrived, the team made us feel genuinely welcome. We were given a personal tour of the hotel, allowing us to discover the different spaces and facilities before settling into our room. It was a thoughtful touch that immediately created a relaxed atmosphere. Throughout our stay, the staff were consistently approachable and happy to help, whether it was recommending dishes from the menu or answering questions about the hotel and the surrounding area. The service reflected the warm hospitality that boutique hotels are known for, making our stay feel comfortable from beginning to end.

Facilities & Atmosphere

Although Hotel Villa Ducale Taormina is a relatively small boutique hotel, every space feels carefully designed. The elegant lobby immediately creates a welcoming atmosphere, while the swimming pool and terraces offer peaceful places to unwind after a day exploring Taormina.

The infinity pool is undoubtedly one of the highlights of Hotel Villa Ducale. With the water at the perfect temperature and breathtaking views over Taormina, it’s the kind of place where you can easily lose track of time. One of the things we loved most were the many quiet corners throughout the property. Whether enjoying a coffee, reading a book or simply taking in the incredible views, the hotel invites you to slow down and enjoy the moment.
